Caen Newland is a conceptual artist and educator from WA with work exhibited in New York, Los Angeles and Melbourne and Perth.
As a conceptual artist I change mediums to what best suits the idea – paintings on canvas, ceramics, digital, sculptural, photographic, murals, spray paint – I use it all visually maintaining the variety of my work. I love to play with different ways to engage people in art, particularly in provoking questions from the viewers. I try to have some instant gratification in each piece but with its idea lingering in the mind long after. I love the thrill of street art and getting away with it, then I’ll go home and diligently work on delicate paintings: I use extremes and subtlety – as the art work requires it.
